App mentor application

Thank you for your support of AYWMC. The aim of the app mentors is to help new AYWMC students feel at home more quickly, and not get lost in the wider AYWMC community on the app.

Commitment

For the first 8 weeks of a new start you need to be able to check into the app at least twice a week. After that you don’t need to be so frequent.

Experience

Priority will be given to applications from people who have finished AYWMC, but the only requirement is that you have finished the first 4 modules (Exposure, Composition, Light and Creativity) and understand aperture/shutter speed/ISO/depth of field. You also need to be able to respond to questions in a compassionate, patient way, and reflect the AYWMC values of enjoying the journey step by step, and comparing yourself to yourself not to someone else.

What’s required?

You will be in a group of 3-4 mentors per start group, so you are not on your own. You will be assigned a new start group (eg. September 2019) and your aim is to make them feel welcome, and also help out with any questions they have.

At least twice a week for the first 8 weeks of your designated new start group check the hashtag for that group’s start, eg. #Sept2019. Check variations in case of mistakes, eg. #AYWMCSept2019. Keep an eye on the Community Feed in case your students aren’t using the hashtag. Check your group’s homework thread each week and help out if needed, or give support/encouragement.

You’ll get a border on your profile photo so people know you are a mentor, which you can keep once you’ve finished your group (or if you want to, you are welcome to go again with another group).

You’ll also get a year’s free subscription from the date you start mentoring.
